One person has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.
On June 2, 2024, shortly after 12:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked on Highway 6 in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.
Police located the vehicle parked and observed the driver to be unconscious. Police contacted the Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services as a precaution and the driver was transported to a local hospital.
As a result of the investigation, Anna Peltier, 29-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 16, 2024.
