Traffic complaint leads to impaired charge on Manitoulin Island

LITTLE CURRENT - One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic complaint.

On June 4, 2024 shortly before 1 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 6. The vehicle was travelling southbound towards Little Current and unable to maintain its lane.

Police located the vehicle on Meredith Street and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver was [allegedly] impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Derek Lavigueur, 44 years old from Sudbury, has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 2, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
