Police find driver 'passed out', seize narcotics during search

33-year-old from Elliot Lake faces trafficking charges after responding officers seize suspected fentanyl and other drugs

On Sept. 20, 2023 at approximately 7:30 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a driver passed out in a parked vehicle on McLaren Crescent in Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported that a male was passed out in the driver's seat of a small red car. A vehicle description and plate number were provided to police. The red car was located a short time later at his residence on Lauzon Crescent, where he was passed out again. The driver was subsequently arrested and police seized approximately 92 grams of suspected fentanyl and over $680 in cash. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

David Jack (DJ) Willett, 33 years old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - heroin
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Sept. 21, 2023.
