Sunlight sparkles on snowy white trails, as far as the eye can see. Deep blue skies arch overhead, and a distant hum of engines comes to the ear…yes, snowmobile season is on its way to Blind River!
The Blind River Sno-Riders snowmobile club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, and is one of the older snowmobile clubs in Ontario. “We currently have approximately 150 members,” said club spokesperson Neil Tulloch.
The club maintains 120 kilometres of snowmobile trails, all the way from Spragge through to Iron Bridge and north to Elliot. “We run a groomer to keep the trails maintained, which is stationed at our club house in Blind River,” said Tulloch. “And we are always looking for more volunteers!” he said with a laugh.
Last year’s season was “a disaster,” said Tulloch. “Winter forgot to show up!”
Club members are encouraged by the early forecasts for this winter, however. “Looks like cooler temperatures and lots of snow coming our way this year, which is perfect to get the trails groomed and get the snowmobiles running!” said Tulloch.
Members of the club encourage fellow Algoma residents to take up snowmobiling. “It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy the winter,” said Tulloch. “We are a nice bunch of people and are always sharing our rides through our Facebook group, so we can share knowledge of the area and keep everyone safe.”

“Here’s to a happy, healthy, snowy winter for all of us!” Tulloch finished.
