Mini bike driver facing multiple charges

On April 18, 2018 at approximately 10:20 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a male for numerous outstanding driving related charges.  

On April 9, 2018, OPP officers were conducting general patrol duties on Taylor Boulevard in the City Elliot Lake, Ontario. At approximately 8:42 p.m. police observed a mini dirt bike being operated in a dangerous manner at a high rate of speed. The driver of the dirt bike failed to stop for police and ended up abandoning it in a wooded area. The driver then fled on foot towards Laprairie Crescent. Neighbours in the area recognized the mini dirt bike and the male operator and provided that information to police.    

After further investigation, police arrested and charged the male.    

Daniel Shoup, 26 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

  • Driving while disqualified - court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC,
  • Fail to stop for police, contrary to section 216 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Unlawfully drive off road vehicle on highway, contrary to section 2 - O.Reg 316/03 of the HTA.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ontario on April 19, 2018.
