Expired sticker was the least of this driver's worries

TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On April 15, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 near the Village of Spragge.

Shortly after 12 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle with an expired validation sticker affixed to the rear plate and a traffic stop was initiated. The male driver produced a G1 licence and did not have a qualified driver as a passenger. Investigation determined the vehicle was not insured and the plates on the vehicle were expired.

The licence plates were seized and the vehicle towed.

As a result of the investigation, Robert Bourassa, 59 years from Sudbury, Ont. was charged with:
    •    Owner operate motor vehicle on highway - no insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
    •    Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
    •    Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA;
    •    Driver motor vehicle, no validation on plate, contrary to section7(1)(c)(i) of the HTA: and with
    •    G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver, contrary to section 5(1) of Ontario Regulations 340/94 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 20, 2018
