LITTLE CURRENT - On Saturday, April 28, 2018 officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 540 in the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, Ont.
At approximately 3:02 a.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.
As a result of the investigation, Drake Hanninen, age 27, of Espanola, Ont. has been charged with:
- Race a motor vehicle - stunt contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused's driver's licence and vehicle were seized for seven days. He is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on June 28, 2018.
Staff Sergeant Webb, detachment commander of the Manitoulin-Espanola OPP reminds the public, "Speeding and other forms of aggressive driving are dangerous behaviours and remain a leading cause in fatal motor vehicle collisions (MVC) on OPP-patrolled roads."
