Driver charged after vehicle strikes Highway 6 guardrail: police

The driver is facing impaired charges as a result

One person has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On July 6, 2024, shortly after 9 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol on Highway 6. Police observed a vehicle unable to maintain its lane, striking the guard rail and bouncing off. Police conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Armand Auger, 41 years old from northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands has been charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
