Driver suffers minor injuries in single-vehicle crash

The 18-year-old faces impaired charges as a result

ASSIGINACK TWP —  One individual has been arrested and charged with impaired driving following a motor vehicle collision.

On July 20, 2024 shortly after 6 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Arthur Street in Assiginack Township. Upon arrival, police learned that the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police attended the hospital and upon speaking with the driver, determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, Chase Becks, 18 years old from Providence Bay, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Aug. 27, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension, as well as an additional three-day suspension. The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
