Ditched vehicle leads to impaired charges in Massey

The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid 52 impaired driving charges since Jan. 1, 2024.

On July 9, 2024 shortly after 1 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township. Police received information that the vehicle had rolled and was in the ditch.

Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle in the ditch and confirmed there was only one occupant. The driver of the vehicle reported no injuries. While speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Mostafa Al-Hasnawi, 25 years old from Mississauga, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Sept. 9, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
