Cops smell pot, Sudbury driver charged

TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On April 8, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Township of the North Shore.

Shortly after 3 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated and as the officer approached the vehicle he detected strong odour of suspected cannabis marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. In the vehicle, police located a small amount of suspected marijuana shatter.

As a result of the investigation, Chad Lewis, 39 years of age from Sudbury, Ont. was charged with:

  • Possession of schedule II substance - cannabis resin - under 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

 The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 7, 2018.
