People sitting down to enjoy a meal at Queen’s Park will soon be able to enjoy a Timmins brew.

For the coming year, Full Beard Brewing’s Bearded Prospector will be served in the dining room at the legislature.

“It’s a huge gain for us trying to distribute our beer out there and get the word out that Full Beard Brewing is from Timmins,” said co-owner Jonathan St. Pierre.

They were one of 30 breweries featured at the Ontario Craft Brewers’ 14th Annual Speaker’s Tasting Reception.

Guests at the reception voted on their favourite beer, with the Bearded Prospector winning in the ale category.

“Being the only northern brewery...was pretty cool, all the other breweries are from the Toronto area, St. Catherine’s, Hamilton, and area. We had good competition, which is good,” he said.

Full Beard submitted four beers for the tasting event. The others were Five O’Clock Shadow Pale Ale, the Master of Beta Session IPA, and Banks of the Mattagami Brown Ale.

Some of the selections were to help showcase the area’s history.

St. Pierre said the Banks of the Mattagami is for the river flowing through town. The Bearded Prospector speaks to the roots of the region.

As Full Beard grows, St. Pierre said opportunities like this help spread the word to more people.

The other winners from the tasting are: Junction Craft Brewing’s Aleyards Session IPA, Blyth Cowbell Brewing’s Shindig-Huron County Lager, Muskoka Brewery’s Shinnicked Stout, and Old Tomorrow Beer’s Honey Ginger Shandy. Niagara College Teaching Brewery’s Pilsner 101 won the speaker’s choice.
