Sun shines on rescheduled Children's Fishing Derby (10 photos)

Weather forecast delayed the derby by one day

Families streamed into Westview Park Sunday morning to get their children registered for the all-day Children's Fishing Derby competition on Elliot Lake.

Most of the competitors took the foot bridge and lakeside path that led to the new finger docks adjacent to the city's boat launch to cast their lines in the lake.

Shortly after 9 a.m., some 40 children had registered to compete. Mayor Dan Marchisella was on hand with his family. He told ElliotLakeToday that, ironically, the fish were really biting a day earlier on Saturday, the day the Derby was originally slated to be held. But there was plenty of fish left for the derby.

Noting that overcast weather had been in the forecast for Saturday, organizer Darren Boast told ElliotLakeToday the decision was made Friday night to delay the derby by one day, until Sunday.

Prizes were awarded for each age group of children competing, from 4 to 16 years.
