Santa Claus has scheduled a pre-Christmas stop in Elliot Lake this week. He will be the star attraction at Friday night's annual Elliot Lake Santa Claus Parade. The 39th annual event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The parade begins at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre parking lot on Highway 108.

From the marshalling area, the procession will head south to Hillside Drive South, then onto Ontario Avenue, turning onto Hillside Drive North and then heading up the hill to Collins Hall where it wraps up. At Collins Hall, refreshments will be provided to people on hand to see Santa.

Parade coordinator Darla Hennessey says the theme of this year's event is Charlie Brown. Floats for the parade can be registered by calling 705-849-6373.

There were 40 entries in last year's parade when the float entered by the Elliot Lake Snowbirds Snowmobile Club won the award for best overall float for 2017.

Hennessey says float registration is a good idea but last minute entries are welcome. A number of prizes will be awarded by a judge's panel, including best overall float, top business floats, tops in clubs and organizations, and best participants among those who walk in this year's Santa Claus Parade.
