MTO charges driver after steel coil incident in the Sault

Traffic disrupted for hours as massive coil removed from intersection

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has charged the driver of a transport after a large steel coil fell off a trailer at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Second Line Tuesday morning.

The massive coil came to a stop at the northeast corner of the intersection.

The driver has been charged with having an unsecured load, a spokesperson for the MTO stated via email.

Being charged with having an insecure load can result in a fine ranging anywhere from $390 to $20,000 and three Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR) points.
