Collège Boréal student and Elliot Laker Frédéric Houle and Michelle Kozlowskyj of Sudbury were named the college’s top athletes at an awards celebration on April 13.
A festive spirit reigned over the Vipères Gala in celebration of the talent and perseverance of Collège Boréal athletes who achieved remarkable academic and sporting success. For the first time since the start of the pandemic, the gala was an in-person event.
This year, the College Life sector, with support from the Sports sector of the Students’ General Association (AGEE), handed out 23 awards over the course of the evening.
Houle also received awards for best performing player and most valuable player, while Kozlowskyj picked up an award as best performing player in the Men’s and Ladies’ badminton divisions.
This year, the Denis Dionne Award for sporting spirit was presented to Kristen Vane of Timmins. Created in honour of Dennis Dionne, former coach of Collège Boréal’s badminton team, the award is presented annually by the Collège Boréal Foundation to a player who has shown outstanding team spirit. The Alumni Award was presented to Patrick Boileau for his great contribution to the world of sports and, for Collège Boréal.
“This year more than ever, I raise my hat to the Vipères athletes for their perseverance in the face of the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic,” said college president Daniel Giroux.
“We are all proud to see them perform at such a high level, despite having been forced to stop training at the college’s sports centre. I salute their sporting and academic successes and I admire their determination and talent. The entire Boréal family takes pride in our athletes.”
