Approximately half of wildland fires in Ontario are caused by human activity, according to the MNRF. Many human-caused fires are located near people, property and infrastructure and require a fast response to prevent them from becoming larger problems.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting one new wildland fire in the region as of this evening.

The latest fire, Wawa 9, is 0.1 of a hectare and located approximately 14 km south of Manitouwadge. The fire at this point is under control.

The fire is one of 15 active fires in the northeast region and is the lone fire that is not being observed at this point.

The fire hazard across the region is high in an area east of Wawa while the hazard is low in much of the rest of the region.

Additional details on forest fires in the region can be found through the Ministry's interactive map.
