With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, Elliot Lake is again hosting a Canada Day contest for households, businesses and children.
City Manager of Recreation and Culture Darla Hennessey said this is the second year for the contest “due to the pandemic.” Traditionally the city has hosted a parade, outdoor barbecue and entertainment and an outdoor street dance and concert.
Registrants will be judged on June 28 with registration for the contest closing on June 21. The categories include decorating the outside of residences in a Canada Day theme, decorating business storefronts and for children and adults decorating cars and bikes.
In the residential category, 10 winners will be chosen. They will receive a maple leaf ornament for their front lawns. Ten winners will also be chosen in the children’s category and will receive gift certificates, while three businesses will also be chosen and receive gift certificates.
Those interested in registering can go either online at the Elliot Lake website or pick up a registration form at Collins Hall.
The contest proved popular last year with 40 entries Hennessey noted.
