Blind River residents and visitors are celebrating Canada's 152nd birthday.
The town's marina park drew a large crowd who were welcomed by Mayor Sally Hagman. She was accompanied by the Blind River Legion Colour Guard along with some members of council.
The mayor told participants in the Challenge Run – an event fashioned after the popular television show the Amazing Race – to register their teams shortly after the official greeting at 1 p.m. Participants took part in a number of challenges, including a watermelon eating contest.
Several local clubs have set up booths for the public about the work they do in the community.
The mayor also urged those attending the festivities to go through the Timber Village Museum relocated recently to the marina building.
There are several vendors offering a variety of food and refreshments.
Fireworks take place at dusk with a viewing area at the marina.
