Last evening at the council meeting, Mayor Andrew Wannan delivered the following announcement followed by a moment of silence as deep sadness was evident among the council members and staff.

Mayor Wannan: “The flags at City Hall were lowered on Sunday, June 23rd, marking the solemn occasion of the 12th anniversary of the Algo Mall collapse. In a gesture of remembrance, they have remained at half mast, as tragically, we must also honour the recent passing of one of our own: City of Elliot Lake employee, Daryl Halloch.”

“Daryl dedicated many years of service to our city, beginning as a summer student, working in the plants department, and eventually rising to the esteemed position of Director of Public Works.”

“Beyond his professional accomplishments, Daryl was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend to many of us. He was family. His absence leaves a profound void that will be keenly felt by his colleagues and all who knew him.”

“Please join us in a moment of silence as we remember both the victims of the Algo Mall collapse and the life and contributions of Daryl.”
