An investigation is underway into the sudden death of a 46-year-old Sudbury woman whose body was discovered several hours after she was reported missing on a recent trip to Point Grondine Park near Killarney.
The death is being investigated by the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police crime unit in Sudbury, said WTPS S/Sgt. Tammy Duffy.
Point Grondine Park is located on Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, and is operated as a backcountry wilderness park.
The woman, who police identified as Lara McCann, was visiting the park with her husband, when they became separated, and was subsequently reported missing in the park on August 26. Police said her spouse reported her missing.
It was roughly five hours later that the woman's body was discovered with assistance from police officers. Police were not able to release details with respect to when, how or where the woman's body was found.
WTPS said the investigation is also being assisted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. An autopsy was expected to be held.
