Unauthorized licence plate leads to charges for driver

The driver was also found to be suspended and could not produce a valid insurance card

BLIND RIVER - On Sept. 14, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were on patrol duties on Youngfox Road in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., police observed a car pulling out of driveway on Youngfox Road. As the officer neared the vehicle, the car pulled back into the driveway. The officer queried the plate and the plate came back not authorized for the vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated and the male driver was found to be suspended and could not produce a valid insurance card.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Robert Chiblow, 48 years of age from Mississauga First Nation, Ont. was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension (x2), contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA;
  • Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Oct. 31, 2018.
