BLIND RIVER - On Jan. 30, at approximately 6:30 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a speeding black SUV that was crossing the centre line on Highway 17, North Shore Township. 

Police stopped the SUV and after further investigation determined that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) had been changed. The original manufacturer's VIN was located which resulted in the vehicle being stolen. The approximately $100,000 SUV was reported stolen on Nov. 10, 2024, from the King City area. The driver was subsequently arrested and the vehicle towed.

Dmytro Mizyk, 40, of Winnipeg, Man. was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 6.
