A 68-year-old from the Sault has been charged after police responded to a possible impaired driver in a parking lot in Blind River.

On Sunday at around 6 p.m., officers with the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to the scene where, police say a driver "was consuming alcohol and smoking cannabis."

The vehicle was parked at a local fast food restaurant on Causley Street.

Police located and spoke to the driver and say officers "determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance."

The driver was arrested and taken to the Blind River detachment for further testing.

Sauro Greganti was charged with operation while impaired-drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Nov. 7. He was also issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The allegation has not been tested in court and Greganti is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
