RIDE check leads to drug charge for Elliot Lake man

On April 30, 2018 at approximately 7:45 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) check program on Hillside Drive South and Kilborn Way in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

Approximately 87 vehicles were checked which resulted in three breath demands and two three-day license suspensions. In addition, a vehicle was stopped and a male driver was found to be in contravention of release conditions. The male driver was subsequently arrested and was also found to be in possession numerous suspected Percocet pills.

As a result, the male was arrested and charged.

Paul Hutchison, 31 years of age of Elliot Lake, Ont,, was charged with:
    •    Fail to comply with conditions of undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on June 5, 2018.
