Police seize handgun, ammo, money following traffic complaint in Little Current

Three people face numerous charges as a result

LITTLE CURRENT — Three people have been arrested and charged following a traffic complaint of a damaged vehicle driving unsafely on Highway 6, Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI) Township.

On Dec. 7, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a damaged vehicle hitting the shoulder on Highway 6 in the NEMI Township. Officers conducted a traffic stop.

Further investigation on scene resulted in police seizing a handgun, ammunition and Canadian Currency.  

As a result, the driver, Keddon Mitchell, 26-years-old from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited ammunition
  • Transport firearm in a careless manner
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to report accident
  • Fail to remain
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

The passenger, Delandra Mcfarlane, 25-years-old from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Transport firearm or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of prohibited ammunition
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The second passenger, Moneel Charles, 21-years-old from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Transport firearm or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of prohibited ammunition
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

All three accused were held in custody and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury on Dec. 8, 2024.
