Police seize fentanyl, meth during traffic stop in Espanola

Police say the 36-year-old also gave a false name

ESPANOLA — One person has been arrested and is facing several charges following a traffic stop on Highway 17, Baldwin Township.

On Dec. 23, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle observed driving on Highway 17 with no rear lights on. The vehicle driver provided police with a false name and was arrested. Further investigation led to the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

A search of the vehicle and the driver resulted in police locating and seizing approximately 25g of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $7,500, approximately 1.5g of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $150, methamphetamine tablets and Canadian currency.

As a result, the driver, Lynda Trottier, 36-years-old from Webbwood, was charged with:

  • Personation with intent
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Operation while impaired - drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine - two counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - other drugs
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada
  • Drive without proper rear light - motor vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 3, 2025.
