Let this be a lesson: Sometimes people do get their stolen items back — especially if the owner suddenly happens to see the item being hauled down a highway.
That's exactly what happened on Thursday night, according to the OPP.
Police say around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, someone phoned 911 to say they spotted a trailer that was stolen from them more than a year ago. The caller said the stolen trailer was being towed by a pickup truck eastbound on Highway 17, in Huron Shores.
Police say the caller followed the pickup until the OPP intervened, conducting a traffic stop.
Officers confirmed the trailer was indeed stolen, police say, and two men from Sault Ste. Marie were arrested.
Thomas Boston, 62, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, draw trailer (no permit) and draw trailer (no plate).
Randy Bennett, 67, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake in November.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
