No one injured in Amsterdam Road house fire

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that on Tuesday January 21, 2025, at 6:59 p.m., the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a call for a fire at a residential address on Amsterdam Road.

Fire department crew arrived on scene at 7:02 p.m. and noted light smoke on the main floor. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and it was under control at approximately 7:23 p.m. The fire was contained to the area of origin and the fire crew remained on site until the scene was clear. The cause of the fire was accidental and there were no injuries. Estimated dollar loss is $5,000.

Fire Chief John Thomas would like to remind the public that:

  1. Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas - it’s the law.
  2. It is recommended that you test the alarms once a month and replace the batteries at least once a year.
