Elliot Lake resident charged in ‘violent neighbour dispute’

OPP say two people were assaulted and a dog was choked

One person was arrested after breaking into a neighbour's apartment and threatened the resident and their dog. 

On November 23, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an apartment on Pine Road in relation to a violent neighbour dispute. The complainant reported that their female neighbour was highly intoxicated and acting extremely irrational. The female broke open the complainant's door, entered the apartment, assaulted the complainant, and choked their dog. The dog was eventually let go and female threatened to kill it and the complainant. The female then proceeded to break three windows at the complainant's apartment and assault another person inside. Police attended and subsequently arrested the female who was also very uncooperative with police.   

Paulina Monica Mews, 46-years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with: 

  • Assault - two counts
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence
  • Mischief over $5000
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Uttering threats - damage or injure animal
  • Cruelty to animals - unnecessary pain, suffering or injury

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on November 24, 2024.
