Driver suffers serious injuries after being ejected from ATV: OPP

The 65-year-old faces impaired charges as a result

MANITOWANING — One person is facing charges following an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision where the driver was ejected from an ATV on Cardwell Street in Manitowaning.

On Dec. 20, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for a single ATV rollover, where the driver was ejected from the ATV. Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services attended the scene and transported the driver to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers conducted a general query and found the driver to be a prohibited driver. As a result, the driver was arrested for operation while prohibited. 

As a result, the driver, Richard Osawanimiki, 65-years-old from Toronto, was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension - two counts
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code - two counts

The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Jan. 21, 2025.
