One person is facing impaired driving charges following a crash south of Elliot Lake Sunday night.
Ontario Provincial Police were called to Highway 108 about 10 km south of the city at around 8 p.m.
They say a small SUV was heading north when the driver missed a curve in the road and crashed into the guard rails, deploying the airbags.
Responding officers allege the driver “exhibited obvious signs of impairment.”
“Furthermore, an empty bottle of wine and cans of beer were located inside the SUV,” OPP added in a news release.
Maureen Berube, 58, from Garson was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
In addition, the SUV was impounded.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
