Customer threatens staff member with knife at hardware store: OPP

No one was injured as a result; a 78-year-old faces charges

The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged one person after threats at a local hardware store.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 11 a.m. police responded to a knife related call at a hardware store on Kilborn Way. The complainant reported that a staff member was threatened by a customer with a knife. Nobody was injured and the customer left the store prior to police arrival.  

Horst Koke, 78-years-old, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Carrying concealed weapon

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 15, 2024.
