Call for service leads to impaired driving charges in Espanola

One person has been arrested and charged following a call for service.

On June 1, 2024 shortly before 5 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Lee Valley Road in Espanola.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Regan St. Amour, 22 years old from Whitefish, has been charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 8, 2024.

The driver received a 90-day administrative driver licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
