It is with heavy hearts and great love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Elizabeth Renee Wolkowski (née Wortley), on December 26, 2024, at the age of 72. Surrounded by her family, Liz peacefully departed this world to be reunited with her beloved husband, Michael. She always found comfort in knowing that their love would carry on beyond this life, and she believed they would one day be together again.
Liz leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, warmth, and generosity. She will be forever remembered by her children, Lisa Horton (Nathan) and Daniel Heywood (Jennifer), and her beautiful grandchildren Hayley, Julia, Isabella, Vaughn, and Bowie. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, and she spoke of them often with pure adoration. Liz’s spirit will live on in them, as well as in the countless lives she touched with her grace and infectious joy.
Liz’s lifelong bond with her sister-in-law and best friend, Judy Wortley, was one of the cornerstones of her life. Together, they shared many adventures, laughter, and memories that will forever be treasured. She was also blessed with a circle of cherished friends, her Northern Reflections family, and extended family who will all hold her in their hearts.
She is survived by her youngest brother, Paul (Melanie), and was predeceased by her brothers Tom (Pat) and Leonard (Judy), her sister Karen (John).
Known for her love of elegance and all things that sparkled, Liz had a special way of making every moment feel celebratory. Whether she was dazzling in her favorite outfits or lighting up a room with her laughter, she was a true beacon of joy. Her vivacious personality and ability to make friends everywhere she went left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
In her final year, Liz moved to Blind River to be closer to her daughter, and it was there that she often said she felt truly at home.
While we will miss her every day, Liz will especially be remembered whenever we raise a glass of white wine, her favorite. Here’s to you, Mom—cheers to the laughter, the love, and all the memories you’ve given us.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, nursing staff, and caregivers, especially Jennifer Woods, Kate, and Mel, for their compassion and the outstanding care they provided to Liz and our family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Liz’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit at the North Shore Health Network in Blind River, a place that offered her comfort and dignity in her final days.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services, Elliot lake.
