Ruth Suzanna Juhola
April 15th, 1941 - August 30th, 2024

Ruth passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 83 surrounded by her loving daughter Sandy Kappa (Joe), nephew Edward Toivonen (Stella), great nephew Johannes Toivonen (Elizabeth) and close friend David Ratz (Joyce). 

She will be reunited with her sister Suzanna Ruth, parents Suzanna and Erik, great nephew and godson Samuel Davin Toivonen, nephew Allan Robert Johannes Toivonen (Sarah), close friend Bettie Brown and brother Arnie Olavi (Helen Anne). 

She was a proud grandmother of Lucca and Lily, loving sister of Anja Toivonen (late Niilo) and Ellen Hull (late Orris) and aunt of Peter Toivonen (Alison), Edward Toivonen (Stella), David Toivonen, Rick Toivonen (Reiki), and Bill Toivonen (Shelia). She was an inspiration to her great nieces and nephews James, Hope, Stephan, Geoffrey, Pikku (little) Anja, Michael, Johannes, and Traci. She will also be missed by many close friends from across Finland and Canada. 

Ruth moved to Thessalon in September 1962 to pursue her passion for teaching at the Thessalon Public School. She taught in the Thessalon and Toronto area for 34 years before retiring in 1996. Ruth always enjoyed singing in choirs, curling in many Bonspiels, cross country skiing on her trail the Juhola Jaunt, participating in exercise classes and travelling all over the world including many times in Cuba. Ruth had always admired Thessalon and took pride in promoting the community to her friends and family. She appreciated the community and the wonderful life it had brought her. 

A celebration of life will be held in Ruth’s honour at Beggs Funeral Home, 175 Main St., Thessalon, on Friday, September 20, 2024, beginning at 11am with Brian Mundell officiating. Luncheon to follow services.

In Lieu of flowers and donations, Ruth requested acts of love, kindness and good deeds to others.
