July 21, 1952 - May 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Claire Hart. Claire passed away with her loving husband, Eric Hart, at her side. She leaves behind daughters Catherine (Richard) and Carolyn (Jason) and cherished grandchildren Mason, Mia, and Audrey. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, raised in Sudbury, the oldest of 12 children of the late Romeo and Carmel Diotte, she will be greatly missed by an extensive family.

Claire formed deep roots in Elliot Lake where she spent 46 years married to her best friend, raised her family and enjoyed a career teaching at VFJ where Mme Hart brought her love of literature to life. Claire loved music, baking, crafting, scrap booking, spending time outdoors whether it be gardening, painting, walks (often gathering rocks for painting), or spending time in her favourite sunny spot on the deck at camp. Even more loved was when she could share that time with family, especially her grandchildren whom she spoiled and doted on. She could even get past her dislike of boats for a family adventure. If she didn’t go, she expected pictures. So many amazing memories are held in the thousands of scrapbook and photo album pages she created. Many crafts and painted rocks have been widely shared by her, giving us another form of hard copy memories we will treasure. Claire had a huge heart, she loved many friends and neighbours as they were an extension of her own family. Her strength, guidance, kindness and love will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Special thanks to the staff at St Joseph’s Hospital, Bayshore and the Elliot Lake health team for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Northern Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge in Elliot Lake. Service will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11 am. From the moose lodge, interment of ashes in Woodlands Cemetery to follow. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
