Winter weather travel advisory in effect for Elliot Lake area

If you’re planning on heading out for the holidays Monday, you may want to adjust your plans.

A winter weather travel advisory in effect for Elliot Lake and surrounding areas, including Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River, Manitoulin Island, Sudbury and North Bay.

It says driving conditions could be hazardous.

“A low pressure system will bring heavy snowfall beginning tonight and intensifying tomorrow morning into the afternoon hours,” said Environment Canada.

“Snowfall amounts could be enhanced for areas closer to the North Channel and Georgian Bay. There is a risk of freezing drizzle tomorrow night in the wake of the system.”

Accumulations could near 10 cm by Monday night.

There is also a winter weather travel advisory in effect north of Sault Ste. Marie, affecting from just north of Montreal River Harbour, up to Wawa and beyond.

The heaviest snowfall in that area is expected Sunday night before tapering off throughout the day on Monday.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
