Two family pets died and two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries following a fire Tuesday at 187 Mississauga Ave. in Elliot Lake.
Fire Chief John Thomas said in a news release there was $250,000 in damage to the home.
Crews were dispatched to the scene at about 4 p.m. through a 911 call, the release said. Upon arrival smoke was visible, The fire was brought under control after about an hour with heavy fire damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout.
Thomas said in the release that no one should leave combustibles on the stove (including appliances containing plastic) and that every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.
