Three new wildfires in northeast region called out quickly

Of 10 active wildland fires, two are under control and eight are being observed

Four new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region on Monday and Tuesday, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).

Three of the fires are already out, while on Monday a larger fire in the Cochrane fire district was being observed.

At the time of Tuesday's update, there were 10 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region: two were under control and eight were being observed.

The fire hazard is low to moderate across the Northeast Region with some areas of high hazard around Sudbury as well as in the Far North, the AFFES said.

AFFES said the new fires were:

  • Chapleau 13 (CHA013), on the northeast side of First Lake, about 5 km southwest of Keast Lake. It was 0.1 hectares and is now out.
  • Hearst 16 (HEA016) was about 1.5 km east of Rogers Road, and 3 km north of Mallard Lake. It was 0.1 hectares and is now out.
  • Sudbury 36 (SUD036), was on the south end of Nadawe Lake. The fire was 0.1 hectares and is out.
  • Cochrane 40 (COC040), along the north side of the Ekwan River, roughly 40 km southwest of Nowashe Lake. On Monday, the fire was described as being 106 hectares and was being observed.
