Things are going swimmingly in Elliot Lake!

‘The water was glorious … and everyone is super happy,’ – participant of the first Aquafit class in the reopened Ruben Yli-Juuti Centre today

More than a dozen Elliot Lake residents participated in the first Aquafit class at the newly renovated Ruben Yli-Juuti Municipal Pool this morning. The pool had been closed for more than two years during an extensive renovation of equipment, pool tanks, and roof.

Participants were delighted to be back enjoying the facility. ElliotLakeToday spoke to many of the participants after their visit this morning.

Here’s what Elliot Lake pool users had to say today

“It was really nice to be back. The water was glorious. The water fit was fun. Andy’s a great instructor. It’s so nice to see everyone again and everyone is super happy!”

“The inside looks great. I’m really glad it’s been redone and we’re finally back.”

“It’s lovely. It was so nice to get back to the pool and to get back to doing – being able to do regular exercise.”

“It’s beautiful! Thank you. Thank you very much.”

“It’s wonderful that it’s open again. It’s wonderful to be back. It’s very nice. They’ve done a good job.”

“It’s very good. I’m glad they finally got it going. A little longer than anticipated but it’s here and we can start up again. Very happy to see it here. Thank you.”

“I think they’ve done a good job. Thank you.”

“I’m super happy because it’s been a two-year hiatus, and I need to get rid of some of the extra pounds I put on over those years!”

“It felt wonderful!”

“It’s wonderful. Better even than it was before. Yeah, we’ve been here since ’98. So happy to have the pool back!”

“It looks like it’s had fresh paint everywhere. It looks like the lining of the pool was redone. There’s a new [accessibility] lift.”

“I came to use the gym. The gym is nice, It’s all refurbished, which is great. So I quite enjoyed it. They’ve done a good job of renewing it and freshening it up, and yeah, it’s nice to have that back.”

“I thought it was wonderful. Yeah, it was just great to get back in the pool.” And describing her experience of the first time back, the resident said, “Well, it was a little creaky, [then, laughing] very creaky!”

“The water was perfect. Perfect. Great temperature. I like the whole look of the pool now. It’s bright. It felt so much bigger, actually. And they said, no, that it’s the same size. But I just think the lighting and everything – thank you so much!"
