The audience choice for Best Feature Film at Cinéfest 2024 is Le comte de Monte-Cristo.

Cinéfest Sudbury has revealed the 2024 winners for the 36th edition of the film festival, which wrapped up Sept. 22.

And the winners are:

Outstanding Canadian Feature Film Award (presented by CTV News Northern Ontario)

“The Mother and the Bear,” dir. Johnny Ma

Outstanding International Feature Film Award

“My Favourite Cake” (Keyke mahboobe man), dir. Maryam Moghadam & Behtash Sanaeeha

French Language Feature Film Award

“La petite et le vieux” (Blue Sky Jo), dir. Patrice Sauvé

Honourable mention: “Ababouiné” (Ababooned), dir. André Forcier

Cinema Indigenized Outstanding Talent Award (presented by Vale Base Metals)

“Red Fever,” dir. Neil Diamond & Catherine Bainbridge

Outstanding Female-Led Feature Film Award (presented by Women in Film & Television - Toronto)

“Bird,” dir. Andrea Arnold

Honourable mention: “Good One,” dir. India Donaldson

Inspiring Voices & Perspectives Feature Film Award

“Black Box Diaries,” dir. Shiori Ito

Outstanding Short Film Award

Cinéfest Sudbury also revealed the winners of the CTV Best in Shorts Competition, which accepts submission from Northern Ontario filmmakers.

Open Category, First Place:

“Ephemera” — Cici Clancy of Sudbury, Ont.

Open Category, Second Place:

“The Stain” — MJ Dionne of Sudbury

When Hailey returns her little sister's sweater with a stain on it, she realizes that betrayal is stickier than maple syrup.

Northern Flicks Award:

“Save Solace” — Matthew Steeves of Temagami, Ont.

An environmental group in Ontario and an Indigenous Elder embark on a canoe trip to investigate the construction of a new logging road set to dissect the Solace Wildlands, the last unprotected roadless forest in Temagami.
