MP Terry Sheehan (Sault Ste. Marie) will be door-knocking in Elliot Lake today, Sunday, March 16.

He also welcomes Elliot Lakers to drop in and say, "hello," at the FireSide Classic Grill on Oakland Boulevard around 11 a.m. when he pauses for a coffee break.

Elliot Lake is in the newly expanded Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma federal electoral district.

The next federal election - expected very soon - will be the first for this new federal district.

Sheehan, a Liberal member, was elected in 2015. Re-elected in 2019 and again in a closely contested race in 2021.

Yesterday, at the Blind River event, he described his longstanding family connections and professional ties to Elliot Lake, Blind River and the surrounding area. And his more immediate reasons for going door-to-door.

"I want to go out and hear not just from Liberals and folks, but I want to get the pulse [in Elliot Lake]. I'm going to knock on a few doors here in Blind River, too. And I'm going to meet with some folks, with some Liberals that I know as well. Building up a team in Elliot Lake."

"Elliot Lake, as we were mentioning - everything's named after Mr. Pearson. Mr. Pearson, who represented Algoma-East, created the flag that we have right in front of us. A different variation, but he was instrumental in that. So I'm going to be out, knocking doors."

The table between us was decorated with small Canadian flags and lapel pins. We continued.

ElliotLakeToday: “Some people are saying right now that we're in a situation where our existence as a country is threatened. Do you think that that is an overstatement?”

Sheehan: “No.”

ElliotLakeToday: “What would your government do in the face of this?”

Sheehan: “Right away, we stood up. I don't think that Trump thought that we were going to stand up so strong, so forcefully, with such conviction, with such patriotism."

"Not just the federal government, but every other citizen.  86 per cent of the people want us to hit back with our counter tariffs."

“I saw this movie in 2018, hated it then, and this sequel is much, much worse,” he said.

Sheehan will be door-knocking today in Elliot Lake.
