Continuing to impress, the Greater Sudbury Cubs grinded out their ninth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday by downing the Blind River Beavers 3-1 at the Blind River Community Centre.

Collecting his NOJHL-leading 12th tally of the campaign, Lucas Signoretti put the Cubs in front as he took a cross-ice pass from Kyle Navarro, the went left-to-right before tucking the puck past a sprawling Connor Dunham-Fox in the Beavers net at 15:56 of the first period.

Greater Sudbury then added another before the intermission when Noah Kohan benefited from a turnover as he took a feed from Mason Walker below the goal line and snapped it over the blocker of the Blind River goaltender.

Moving to the middle frame, the Cubs extended their edge as Walker found himself free in front and chipped in a backhand for his fifth of the season at 8:08.

Answering that, the Beavers got on the board later in the session off a long stretch-pass that allowed Jack Kruiderink to find Owen King driving down the right wing where he whipped a shot past Greater Sudbury’s Noah Beaulne.

Heading to the third, the scoreline remained the same with Blind River getting Dunham-Fox out late for another skater, but the home side could not get any closer before time expired.

The wins sees the front-running Cubs improve to 10-1-1-1 on the season while the Beavers dropped to 8-4-1-0 in seeing a four-game unbeaten run come to an end.
