It was a sunny and warm day for Saturday’s annual Gentle Shepherd Christian Church Soap Box Derby.
The venue was the fifth annual derby hosted by the church and signified its return after a two-year pandemic hiatus. The derby was open to children ages five to 12 and it was clear on the smiling faces of the racers that it was a welcomed event.
Equally thrilled were parents, guardians and friends of the racers who sat along the hill on Lisbon Road in Elliot Lake to take part and cheer all the racers.
“It was a clear, sunny day when 58 children made their way to Mount Lisbon armed with only a helmet and a need for speed,” said event chairman Wayne Logan. “The children all had fun driving the cars, free lunch and prizes.”
Logan noted that the sponsors, donations, and volunteers made the event possible.
Trophy winners were championt Caden Hannah-Hilts with second place going to Molly Sharratt, third to Meadow Shultz, and fourth place to Kegan McLean.
