Students entering Grades 7-9 are eligible to sign up for one of Skills Ontario's week-long trades camps, being held across the province this summer.

Skills Ontario is once again hosting a series of summer camps aimed at sparking interest in skilled trades careers among northern youth.

Elliot Lake and Blind River students can get involved with camps, too.

During the annual initiative, students entering Grades 7-9 participate in hands-on activities relevant to the skilled trades, helping them develop communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Each week-long camp runs daily between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is taught by Skills Ontario counsellors and industry/college professionals.

“Our camps provide a fantastic opportunity to add an educational twist to summer vacations,” Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario, said in a news release.

“Campers participate in hands-on workshops led by Skills Ontario counsellors and industry professionals, exploring a range of topics in industrial, construction, motive power, service and technology sectors.”
