An urgent drive on Jan. 5 from Massey to St. Joseph’s General Hospital at 4 in the morning saw the car stopping shortly after turning onto Highway 108, as Stacie Minten gave birth to her daughter, Addilyn, 5.5 lb., on the side of the highway at 4:35 a.m.
“She was a roadside baby,” said Minten, a Massey resident.
Mother and baby were recently presented with a quilt from Elliot Lake Quilt Guild president Monique Fourcaudot at the Gentle Shepherd Christian Church where the guild meets every Tuesday.
Minten said the new baby girl is a welcome addition to a “blended family” that already has three boys to greet their new sister, ages 11, 8 and 8.
Fourcaudot said the guild always tries to make a quilt that is suitable for either a boy or girl. This year’s baby quilt, done is shades of brown, green, black and white, has a border of mushrooms, toadstools, fawns, rabbits and flowers.
Minten said she was especially pleased with the design of the quilt because she is a nature lover and enjoys the outdoors.
