Elliot Lake Purolator workers delivered 1,100 red shopping bags to homes along the Esten subdivision Saturday along with helpers who assisted.
It’s the first time local Purolator workers have taken part in the program that will see the shopping bags containing donated non-perishable food handed out and collected next Saturday Dec. 11. The food donated will be dropped off at the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank to assist needy families during the Christmas season.
The Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank provides temporary food relief to people who are struggling with hunger in Elliot Lake. Their goal is to provide their clients with a three-day supply of food once per month. In 2021, the organization has seen an increase in their client list. The most needed items include packaged pasta, pasta sauce, high-protein foods, canned or powdered milk, canned vegetables and fruits, whole grain cereals, infant foods and baby formula, rice, and fruit juices.
Purolator Tackle Hunger® was created by Purolator employees as a way for them to support those in need in their local communities. Every year, Purolator local teams across Canada run events in their communities to raise food and funds to help those facing food insecurity. We have delivered more than 17 million pounds of food to local food banks since 2003.
The bags will be collected by uniformed Purolator employees outside homes starting at 10 a.m. next Saturday.
