Public meeting about the coming year in Blind River will take place on Zoom

Blind River will hold a public meeting next Tuesday, Feb. 15 for residents on Zoom with information on the future of the community.

“The town of Blind River will be holding an information session via Zoom,” she told council at its virtual meeting, Tuesday evening. “We have a stellar line up of speakers including Kristy Harper, Amanda Perri and Allison McFarlane from Algoma Public Health who will be giving an overview of the opioid crisis in Algoma, and steps on educating the public and statistics on where we are today.”

Graeme Lowry, CEO and president of North Shore Power Group will be providing an overview on the initiatives of NSPG and Omni, recognizing how these two institutions are working towards eliminating the town’s debt with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC),” the mayor added. “Town treasurer, Sue Dent will be updating us on the 2022 budget, providing highlights for the coming year. Last, but not least, Karen Bittner town Director of Facility and Community Services will be showcasing some great news stories for our community.”

Residents can watch the presenters from home and find the Zoom link on the town of Blind River home page.

The mayor also suggested residents can take their significant others out ice fishing on the Valentine's Day weekend, and boost the town's ranking in the 2022 Ice Fishing Derby.

There are some incredible prizes and registering is easy by going to the town website.

Or they may choose to go to the town’s outdoor rink which is being enjoyed by residents or participate in a free ski day complete with equipment at the Boom Camp trails.

“There are also beautiful snowshoe trails on the Youngfox Trail extension or at the golf course,” she said of outdoor activities available to residents and visitors in Blind River.

“Blind River has so much to offer, and it is a great opportunity to embrace our great outdoors.”
