A small volume of fuel or oil has been detected in a storm drain that empties in Horne Lake, says the City of Elliot Lake

The City of Elliot Lake reports that a small volume of fuel or oil has been detected in a storm drain that empties in Horne Lake, the picturesque downtown lake adjacent to Highway 108, beside the Miner's Memorial.

"The volume of fuel is minor but consistent," Elliot Lake Chief Administrative Officer Dan Gagnon tells ElliotLakeToday. "The City is managing the outflow with absorbent pads, consulting with the Ministry of the Environment and is investigating the storm system to identify and stop the source."

He says if things go well the substance may flush out and it will become a non issue.

Mr. Gagnon says there is no concern for the municipal drinking water or other infrastructure. He says the city of Elliot Lake will update the municipal website and fan any out new information via local media as details become available.
